What strategy is Dutch manager and Ranchi Rhinos player Floris Evers plotting against India?

It may not be entirely a case of divided loyalties, but will surely be a bit of that for Netherlands men’s hockey player Floris Evers. The vastly experienced Dutch attacking midfielder is in India for the 10th Hero Junior Men’s World Cup hockey tourney as a team manager for their national junior outfit.

The 30-year-old, who plays for Amsterdam H&BC back home, is given the team manager job essentially because he knows a lot about how Indian players play given his extensive experience of playing against them in the inaugural Hero Hockey India League while turning out for Ranchi Rhinos.

The 2003 FIH Men’s Young Player of the Year Award lived to his billing in the HIL, guiding the youngsters in the side en route to cornering glory pipping Delhi Waveriders at the post. The Netherlands junior team for the 10th Junior World Cup will be hoping to benefit as much as possible from Evers’ inputs about the way the Indian players go about their business on the pitch.

The 2009 runners-up will be hoping that Evers, who has made 228 international appearances for the Dutch national team, will put forth his inputs about the number of Ranchi Rhinos players, who are part of the Indian Junior World Cup side like captain Manpreet Singh, vice captain Amit Rohidas, Kothajit Singh and Mandeep Singh.

Of course, if the Netherlands can blunt out the defiance of especially Manpreet and Mandeep in their tournament opener, it will look like Evers has indeed done his job!

The hosts will be keyed up to nullify all strategies hammered out by Evers along with the Netherlands team management.
