Former Indian hockey captain Ajit Pal Singh joins Aam Aadmi Party

Former Indian men’s hockey captain and Olympian Ajit Pal Singh jumped on the political bandwagon – joining the newly-floated Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Ajit Pal, who famously led the country to its World Cup crown at Kuala Lumpur in 1975, becomes the first hockey player to join the new political outfit.

The 66-year-old former half-back, who also donned the national jersey at the 1968 and 1972 Olympics in Mexico City and Munich – where India bagged a bronze each – could trigger other hockey players to take the political plunge.

The mercurial player, who is the chief advisor of the Hockey India League’s Delhi franchise –Delhi Waveriders - also featured in three World Cups – 1971 and 1973 besides the epoch-making 1975 edition.
