Yuvraj Walmiki recalled to Indian team for FIH Hero Hockey World League Finals


Discarded striker Yuvraj Walmiki has been recalled to the Indian men’s hockey team for the FIH Hero Hockey World League Finals to be held at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi beginning January 10.

The Mumbai boy last played for India at the 34th FIH Champions Trophy in Melbourne in December 2012.

Seasoned forward SV Sunil also returned to the national fold after missing the 9th Asia Cup owing to an elbow injury.

Talented striker Affan Yousuf, who was overlooked for the 2013 Junior Men’s World Cup, finds a place in the senior team for the first time.

Goalkeeper Harjot Singh, who was India's goalkeeper in the
Junior Men’s World Cup held in December, has also been named in the national side along with midfielder M B Aiyappa. He replaces P T Rao for his maiden entry into the national squad.

Regular skipper Sardar Singh links up with the team after his club hockey stint in the Netherlands.

Goalkeeper PR Sreejesh will be Sardar's deputy.

Drag-flicker Gurjindr Singh – one of the finds of the Junior Men’s World Cup – was overlooked.

Strikers Gurwinder Singh Chandi and Danish Mujtaba – both recovering from long-standing injuries were not considered.
