Delhi Waveriders edge out Dabur Mumbai Magicians 2-1

Last year runners-up Delhi Waveriders weathered stiff resistance from Dabur Mumbai Magicians before authoring a 2-1 win in the 2nd Hero Hockey India League at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi.

The Waveriders struck the first goal in the second quarter after a goalless opening quarter when South African Lloyd-Norris Jones fed Akashdeep Singh, who beat David Harte all ends up after a defensive gaffe from Gurjinder Singh.

The Delhi outfit could have doubled the lead in the third quarter, but Lloyd-Norris Jones’s goal was disallowed by umpire RV Raghu Prasad as it clipped Akashdeep Singh’s foot en route to the goal.

The Magicians made them pay for the lapse when captain Glenn Turner deflected home to bring things on an even kneel. The Waveriders churned out the match-clincher four minutes from the final hooter when Yuvraj Walmiki rattled the Magicians' cage.

The win helped Waveriders to be firmly entrenched on top of the points table ahead of Jaypee Punjab Warriors with 23 points.
