Jaypee Punjab Warriors sail past Mumbai Magicians 4-1

Jaypee Punjab Warriors eased past Dabur Mumbai Magicians 4-1 in the 2nd Hero Hockey India League at the Mahindra Hockey Stadium in Mumbai.

The home crowd was stunned to silence when Indian striker SV Sunil scored an early goal for the Warriors. The goal rattled the Magicians, who despite their best efforts to neutralize the advantage, were kept at bay.

The Magicians were hit hard when their captain Prabhjot Singh walked off the pitch owing to a sprain. The Warriors kept up its offensive ways and soon doubled the lead through a fine goal by Dharamvir Singh as they led 2-0 at the end of the opening quarter.

Young talented Affan Yousuf got his name on the scoresheet netting the third goal and soon he was again in the thick of action, engineering a penalty stroke, which was taken full advantage of by Sandeep Singh.

Trailing 0-4, the Magicians had to summon desperate measures. VS Vinaya reduced the margin in the closing stages of the second quarter. The Mumbai outfit had another thirty-five minutes to throw a serious challenge at the Warriors, but the latter soaked up all their pressure and kept plugging away to hold sway over the proceedings.

Both teams failed to score any goals in the final two quarters and the final scoreline was like what it was at half-time – a comprehensive 4-1 win for the Warriors.
