Lucknow to host first two-tier senior nationals from February 27

Hockey India’s first-ever two-tier senior nationals will begin later this month with the National ‘B’ division men’s championship getting underway at Lucknow from February 27 and will run till March 13. The men’s ‘A’ division will also be held in Lucknow from March 11-23.

The senior ‘A’ division women’s nationals will be held at Bhopal from March 13-20, while the senior ‘B’ division women’s nationals will be held at Bhopal from March 18-23.

The idea behind having two-tier senior nationals is to put a ‘competitive’ structure in place and do away with the earlier ways of bigger teams posting massive wins over weaker teams.

Hockey India is likely to allot such tourneys to different centres in future.
