Asian Games Qualifiers: Bangladesh pip Singapore 2-0

Hosts Bangladesh got the better of Singapore 2-0 to post its second straight win in a Pool B clash of the Asian Games Men’s Hockey Qualifiers being played at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium in Dhaka.

The win enabled the home side to top Pool B with two wins from as many games having beaten Hong Kong 5-1 in their tournament opener.

After a goalless opening half, Bangladesh broke the stalemate through a Krishna Kumar field goal in the 40th minute. Captain and drag-flick expert Mamunur Rahman Chayan, fresh from his hat-trick against Hong Kong, fired home a PC in the 49th minute to pave the way for a cozy win.

In Pool A Oman are leading the points table having won both their games against Sri Lanka and Chinese Taipei. It may be noted that the top six finishers will qualify for the 2014 Asian Games to be held in Incheon, Korea in September.
