Former Pakistan World Cup-winning captain Islahuddin mugged at gunpoint in Karachi

Former Pakistan World Cup-winning hockey  captain and Olympian Islahuddin Siddique was robbed in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area.

The 66-year-old former right-winger was mugged at gunpoint by three miscreants who decamped with his car, mobile, and cash. Islahuddin remained in the captivity of the armed men in his Vego for 30 minutes before they dropped him off and fled away.

Islahuddin’s exploits in Pakistan hockey is well documented. He captained Pakistan to World Cup triumph in 1978 in Buenos Aires (Argentina) – in the same year he led the Greenshirts to glory in the Champions Trophy and Asian games.

He was also part of the silver-winning and bronze-winning Pakistan teams at the 1972 Munich Olympics and 1976 Montreal Olympics. Islahuddin played for the Pakistan team from 1967 to 1978 – featuring in 130 internationals and scoring 117 goals.
