Chile to host 2016 Women's Junior World Cup

Chile has bagged the rights to host the eight edition of the Women's Junior Hockey World Cup in 2016. According to the International Hockey Federation (FIH), the South American nation will hold the big-ticket event from November 23 to December 4 at Hockey Club Manquehue, Santiago.
As many as 16 teams will vie for top honours in the twelve-day event, which is being held in Chile for the second time. Chile had earlier successfully hosted Women's Junior Hockey World Cup in 2005. The Hockey Club Manquehue boast of two turfs and have been successful in hosting several international events over the years.
It may be worth recalling that the inaugural Women's Junior Hockey World Cup was held in Canada in 1989 and the event was held every four years since 1993.
The Netherlands have won the Women's Junior Hockey World Cup thrice, while Korea have won it twice. In fact, the Netherlands will be eyeing a hat-trick in the 2016 edition having won both the 2009 and 2013 editions, where they got past Argentina on both occasions.
Hosts Chile have featured in four of the seven previous editions and its best showing has been a 10th place finish in 2005 in their own backyard.
