Indian eves beat Malaysia 2-0 in second Test

The Indian women’s hockey team downed Malaysia 2-0 to post their second consecutive win in the six-match Test against Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.

The Ritu Rani-led side triggered excitement in the Indian camp as Anuradha Devi drew first blood in the 10th minute of play. Malaysia tried hard to stage a rebound, but were denied access to the Indian citadel thanks to some sturdy defending.

India consolidated their position close to half-time when Poonam Rani made the scoreline 2-0 and that’s how the final scoreline remained as Malaysia threw everything into their defence to deny them any more goals.

Earlier, in the opening Test India swamped Malaysia 5-0. Talented Rani Rampal gave the Blueskirts  the lead in the 19th minute while skipper Ritu Rani doubled the lead close to half-time.

There was no lack of intensity from the Indians in the second stanza as debutant Gurjit Kaur converted a penalty corner to make the scoreline 3-0 before Rani Rampal added her second of the day. Ritusha Arya made it 5-0 close to the final hooter to give India a facile win.
