The Australian men's hockey team snapped the superb run of 11th ranked Argentina, handing them a 5-1 drubbing to storm into the final of the 2014 World Cup at Hague.
The Kookaburras launched proceedings in blistering fashion with Kieren Govers converting a penalty corner in the 4th minute of play. The Los Leonas were not allowed to offer a fitting riposete as Jeremy Hayward consolidated Australia's lead with a 22nd minute strike. Jacob Whetton made it 3-0 close to half-time.
Argentina needed to produce something out of the ordinary in the second stanza, but there was no let up from the Aussies as Chris Ciriello fired home another short corner in the 49th minute. Jeremy Hayward netted his second and his team's fifth in the 55th minute.
The South Americans did pull one back in the 58th minute through the tournament's top-scorer Gonzallo Peillat in the 58th minute, but that would have been of little consolation as Australia had the made the outcome of the game a foregone conclusion by then.
It may be noted that Australia had crushed Argentina 6-1 during their last meeting at the 2014 Hockey World League Final Round in New Delhi.
The Kookaburras have now set up a mouth-watering summit clash with the Netherlands, who rode on a Mink van der Weerden's first half goal to put it across spunky England.
