Jason Lee steps down as England’s women’s hockey team coach

Jason Lee has stepped down as England’s women’s hockey team coach. The 40-year-old former international’s coaching future came under scrutiny after England eves posted their worst-ever showing at the 2014 World Cup in The Hague, finishing a disappointing eleventh.

Lee, who has made 87 international appearances (combined) for England and Great Britain, will be replaced by current performance director Danny Kerry, who will assume temporary charge of the national side in the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Lee had taken charge of the England women’s team after the 2012 London Olympics. He earlier had a long coaching stint with the England’s men’s team – he was the coach of the men’s team in three Olympics – 2004, 2008 and 2012.  At the 2012 London Olympics, Lee played his part in England finishing fourth.

As a player he featured in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He took to coaching after calling time on his playing career retiring after the 1998 Utrecht World Cup.
