Former Dutch international
Sjoerd Marijne has been named the coach of the Netherlands women’s hockey team. Sjoerd
will take over from Argentine Max Caldas, who attained a fair amount of success
with the Dutch girls guiding them to glory in the 2012 London Olympics after
taking charge in 2010.
Sjoerd is currently the Dutch junior men’s team coach and is busy preparing the team for the upcoming EuroHockey Junior Championship, which will be held in Waterloo, Belgium from July 20-26.
The Royal Dutch Hockey Association while making the announcement stated that Sjoerd will take charge from August 1, 2014 and his contract runs till the 2016 Rio Olympics. Sjoerd’s first assignment will be the FIH Champions Trophy, slated to be held in Mendoza, Argentina from November 29 to December 7.
It is the second change of guard in Dutch hockey in recent times. The Netherlands men’s team coach Paul van Ass was relieved of his duties and was replaced by Max Caldas, whose first assignment will be the FIH Men's Champions Trophy scheduled to be held in Bhubaneshwar, India this December.
